GRASS VALLEY — A fatal car crash on State Route 20 between Penn Valley and Grass Valley, near Rex Reservoir Road, claimed the life of a 23-year-old male from Rough and Ready on Thursday, June 26th, around 3:30 PM. The accident occurred when a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, traveling eastbound, veered off the right shoulder and struck a guardrail. According to the California Highway Patrol, Grass Valley office, the Jeep then crossed all lanes of traffic and was struck by a 2004 Toyota Scion being driven westbound by the deceased. The front left of the Toyota collided with the Jeep.
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, transporting the Jeep’s occupants by ground to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville for moderate injuries. The Toyota driver was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The cause of the Jeep’s initial departure from the roadway remains unknown, and the California Highway Patrol, Grass Valley office, continues to investigate. The Nevada County Coroner’s Office will release the deceased’s identity after notifying next of kin.
