NEVADA CITY — Rapper Joseph Edgar Foreman, known as Afroman, will perform at the Miners Foundry Cultural Center in Nevada City. Born on July 28, 1974, in Los Angeles, California, Foreman gained fame in 2001 with his hit song “Because I Got High.” The track earned a Grammy nomination and appeared in the movie “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.” He also became known for the song “Crazy Rap,” often referred to as “Colt 45.” Foreman has built a career as an independent artist who handles his own recording and distribution.
In August 2022, deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio raided Foreman’s home on a warrant related to suspected drug trafficking and kidnapping. Officers found no evidence of illegal activity, and authorities filed no charges. Security camera footage recorded the raid. Foreman later incorporated clips from the footage into music videos for songs including “Lemon Pound Cake” and “Will You Help Me Repair My Door.” The videos mocked the officers’ actions.
Seven deputies sued Foreman in March 2023 for defamation and invasion of privacy. The officers alleged that the videos caused them humiliation, mental distress, and damage to their reputations. They sought nearly four million dollars in damages. A jury in Adams County ruled in Foreman’s favor on all counts on March 18, 2026. “I didn’t win, America won,” Foreman said outside the courthouse. “America still has freedom of speech. It’s still for the people, by the people.”
