Durgan Bridge, connecting Highway 49 with the Downieville Courthouse, will close between 10 AM and noon on August 19.
UPDATE — Sierra County has canceled Wednesday’s bridge inspections. The county says the inspections will be rescheduled, but did not give a reason for the cancelation or a new closure date.
DOWNIEVILLE — Downieville will lose its Nevada Street crossing, Durgan Bridge, for two hours on Wednesday, August 19. Sierra County will close the bridge from 10 AM to noon for an inspection, and the county says no one will be able to cross on foot or by vehicle between Highway 49 and the Courthouse while the work is underway. “Please plan accordingly,” the county told residents in a notice posted August 12.
Two others will be inspected the same day. Closures at the Nevada Street, Pearl Street, and Mountain House bridges are scheduled between 10 AM and 4 PM, according to the notice, with Nevada Street carrying the shorter and stricter window.
The Pearl Street Bridge, also known as Hansen Bridge, crosses the Downie River near the upper end of Main Street. The Mountain House Bridge sits farther west, carrying Mountain House Road over the North Fork of the Yuba River just south of Highway 49 near Goodyears Bar.
