Editor's note: The museum's newsletters come out on a regularly irregular basis. Evidently none was issued in 2012.
Mamie and Niece M. Weber on Main Street in Alleghany 1932, the year before a fire took out all of the buildings in this photo (the building that belongs to the porch post on the right edge of the photo survived and is still standing next to Casey’s Place). The explosives vault of the Red & White Store (large building on left) is still standing in the parking lot.
Our last newsletter seeking information about James Swan was successful. Mamie Swan’s great-niece [Janice Price] contacted us and sent scans of Mamie’s photo album. [Neighbor Adeleine O'Donnel saved the photo album after Mamie died at
the age of 80 in 1965. According to Janice it was Donna (O'Donnel) Hayes who made sure that she got the album. Janice's mother was M. Weber in the photo below.] We enlarged and printed the scans as best we could. The entire photo collection is
now on display at the museum. James’ wife Mamie ran a boarding house in Alleghany for many years. [In the HL Johnson House].
