GRASS VALLEY — After over a month of partial and full closures, South Auburn Street in downtown Grass Valley has been repaved and reopened. The work was completed by Hansen Bros. Enterprises and included full pavement replacement, upgraded drainage, new sidewalks and curb ramps, and upgraded signage.

The South Auburn repavement forms part of the Grass Valley Downtown Street Rehabilitation Project, under which similar efforts have been completed on Main Street. The entire initiative carried a total cost of around $2.5 million.

Grass Valley has also recently completed resurfacing for sections of East Main Street, Brunswick Avenue, Dorsey Drive, Sutton Way, Olympic Park Circle, Old Tunnel Road, and Sierra College Drive. Sierra Nevada Construction, Inc., carried out the resurfacing as part of a Street Rehabilitation Project. The focus on extending the life of existing pavement kept the overall cost of that project to around $1 million.

Although resurfacing is complete, many of the project areas remain unpainted, and residents have raised concerns about driver confusion due to the lack of road markings. A city official confirmed that outlining for the Street Rehabilitation Project began in the Brunswick area on Sunday night. That painting will continue, weather permitting, over the next few weeks. The official also confirmed that road markings for South Auburn Street and Main Street downtown are on a similar schedule.
