Plumas County Sheriff’s Office Press Release
February 25, 2025
CLIO — On February 23, 2025, local dirt bike riders located what appeared to be human remains in a difficult-to-access area south of Highway 70 and west of Clio State Route 40A. Due to the challenging terrain, personnel from Plumas County Search and Rescue (SAR) and Detectives from the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office were unable to reach the location until February 24, 2025. Upon arrival, the remains were confirmed to be human.
Due to the elements and decomposition, a positive identification of the remains cannot be made immediately. There is evidence at the scene suggesting the remains may belong to a Portola resident, Anthony Evans who is a previously reported missing person from December of 2023. The investigation is ongoing.
At this time, there is no further information available, and the investigation continues. The remains will be sent for an autopsy in an attempt to determine the cause of death and for identification. The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information related to this case to contact them at (530) 283-6300.
