Nevada County Sheriff Investigation Leads to Drug Bust and Arrests

NEVADA CITY — On April 30, 2025, deputies and detectives of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) conducted a pretrial release search of a property located on the 700 block of Zion Street in Nevada City, associated with Haley Greenhaw, 21.

Greenhaw has a history of drug-related offenses, with her most recent arrest occurring on April 24, 2025. As part of her pretrial release, Greenhaw shall not possess/consume controlled substances; shall submit to chemical testing for the detection of controlled substances; and shall submit her person/residence/vehicle/personal property to search and seizure by a peace officer or probation officer at any time.

Greenhaw was present at the address when the deputies arrived, along with Devon Cole Porteous, 34, of Auburn. The search revealed a substantial amount of narcotics, paraphernalia, a switchblade knife, and credit cards and debit cards not belonging to either suspect. Narcotics, a loaded firearm, and ammunition were also found in Porteous’ vehicle. Evidence also suggested possible drug dealing.

Both Greenhaw and Porteous were placed under arrest. Greenhaw faces the charges of possessing a controlled substance for sale - 11378HS; contempt of court -166(a)(4)PC; intent to defraud - 530.5(c)(1)PC; and for possessing, carrying, selling, or transferring a switchblade knife with a blade of two or more inches in length - 21510(b)PC. Porteous faces the charges of possession of a controlled substance while armed - 11370.1HS; for being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm - 29800(A)(1)PC; for possessing a controlled substance – 11377(A) HS; for being a person prohibited from possessing a firearm and ammunition - 30305(A)(1)PC; and for possessing a controlled substance for sale - 11378HS.

This investigation remains ongoing.
