On Banished Words
1 min read
Esteemed Editor,
In the matter of suggesting to banish words from our collective vocabulary in the Jan. 11 “On the Shelf” column, allow me to say the following. There is no greater negative impact on the iconic representation of individual freedoms than some hack with a side-hustle of being an obsessed English professor wanting to slay vernacular from everyday speech, however threadbare the words may be. At the end of the day, poor choice of words is every human’s God-given right, and helps identify those afflicted by cliché and malapropisms. Imagine a world where everyone spoke with the same scholarly dialect devoid of any rizz. The mere thought of it is…wait for it…cringe-worthy.
