To the Editor,
I want to publicly commend Commander Ryan Pederson and his staff at CHP Quincy. During the No Kings demonstration on June 14, a large contingent of California Highway Patrol officers gathered at the Plumas Unified School District administrative offices, a few blocks from the protest at the courthouse. I know it is costly to deploy so much staff, and I am sure it was a long, boring wait for the officers, but this course of action was admirably wise.
Those who were uncomfortable with a police presence were reassured by the officer’s calm attention. Those (many) who are new to protests were happy to feel protected. Most important, when the next demonstration comes, no one on any side of the issues will think they can easily misbehave.
On behalf of the community, thank you.
Sincerely,
Scott Corey
