On Sierra County Priorities
2 min read
Dear neighbors,
Two Saturdays ago, Sierra County Democrats were thrilled to join with other members of the community in the annual Oktoberfest celebration in Sierra City. Although the wind had its way with pop-up shelters and paperwork — and the weather was a bit on the cool side — the day was made warm and welcoming by the good-neighborliness and graciousness of the people.
At our Sierra County Democrats table, we asked people to “vote” for issues that are important to them. The sign on the table read “What are your top 3 concerns?” Each person was given three tickets to place in whichever of seven different labeled containers they chose. We wanted to find out what it is that the members of our community find most important or most troubling these days. A total of 47 people took part in this survey, with 141 votes cast. Here are the results:
• International Relations / War = 29 votes
• Climate Change / Wildfire = 24 votes
• Affordability / Cost of Living = 21 votes
• Immigration = 20 votes
• Artificial Intelligence = 18 votes
• Social Security = 17 votes
• Wildlife Management / Wolves & Bears = 12 votes
We encourage all of our elected officials and candidates for office to take note of these concerns. This is what at least a portion of your constituents (or people you hope to be your constituents) have to say right now.
