Editor,
The last month or so we, in Sierra City, have had 2 fire alarms that were determined to be false alarms. From what we have been able to find out so far it seems that someone in Downieville pushed the wrong button which caused Sierra City fire alarms to be activated.
This has caused some problems…to say the least. First off, the alarm isn’t loud enough as those with hearing problems weren’t able to hear it at all. Secondly the recording that goes with it…no one can hear. Some of us just hear noise but have no idea what is going on.
Some of our population in Sierra City are between the age of 70 and 90 and don’t hear and/or move as fast as before.
Perhaps the alarm and recording should be louder. As well as are there any plans for authorities to either drive through the areas with a loudspeaker and perhaps even consider going door to door.
Just remember some of the elders don’t hear as well and certainly don’t walk as fast as when younger so it will take more time for them to be activated, get their stuff, and pets (if possible) and get moving.
Please take a serious look at what we are concerned about and see if any fixes are possible.
Appreciate it.
