QUINCY — Inmate Caleb Duerr escaped from the Plumas County Jail at around 8:00 AM on Friday, September 27th. He is a white adult male, 39 years old, 6’ 1” tall, and weighs about 165 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing dark blue jail-issued clothing near the O’Reilley’s auto parts store in Quincy. The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) considers him violent and dangerous and is telling the public to call 911 if he is seen.

According to the PCSO, Duerr escaped from the recreational yard at the jail by manipulating two fenced areas and fleeing to the auto parts store. The PCSO clarified that this occurred at the old jail facility, not the newly constructed jail to which no inmates have yet been transferred. He then got in a vehicle with someone who was at the store, who told police that Duerr was dropped off at the intersection of Highway 70 and County Road A-23 near Beckwourth. He was last seen on September 27th between 9:30 and 10:00, heading southbound on A-23.

After Duerr escaped, the Plumas Unified School District was notified at 8:35 AM, which issued precautionary shelter-in-place orders to all Quincy schools. The PCSO then contacted allied agencies to begin a K-9 and air unit-supported manhunt. Neither was successful in finding any clue of Duerr’s whereabouts. Several sightings were reported once the public was notified of the escape, but all proved to be misidentifications. Duerr has since communicated with individuals via email, suggesting he has access to a phone or computer with internet access.
