Dear Editor,
I read in the Mountain Messenger about NIMBY in the forest…. Who wants a motel next to their house? Granted, some houses don’t have occupants here year round. Is that a problem? Commence the scramble for shelter every time there is a new worker for our school personnel and for deputy sheriffs, in particular, every time there is a job filled. Even medical providers have had some difficulty finding residence. There are those semi-vacation homes and the just plain empty ones. We live across the street from one and down the street for others. The Planning Commission and then the Sups have wrestled with this for years.
On top of the housing conundrum there are taxes. Taxes, taxes, who wants to pay them? Better thee than me. There are only so many services that are needed. Just roads and the upkeep, fire and the taming of that monster, courts for the unruly, maybe some people to find others and ride heard on the unruly the courts must then deal with. There is really nothing else, right? Did I hear children out there making noise? And why is there a library? Oh yes, the children go there for not only books but play and learning. There are so many things that could really be left to whomever wants to make a few bucks. Count me out, I want them all. I will pay my taxes. I will be a YIMBY. Keep discussing, my friends.
