Red Moose Owners Retire, Employee Takes Over Management

Steve and Jenny Traverso in front of the Red Moose Cafe in Sierra City.
After 12 wonderful years of serving this incredible community, we are sharing some bittersweet news — we have officially sold our beloved Red Moose Cafe. The business we started with family, who continued to support and help us even after moving on from the partnership. Thank you, Rich and Sandy, you both are a big part of the success of the Moose.
From the very beginning, this cafe has been more than just a business to us. It has been a place filled with laughter, friendships, early mornings, PCT hikers, and countless memories we will always cherish. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our amazing customers and community. You have truly meant the world to us.
While this chapter is coming to a close for our family, we are happy to share that a familiar and trusted face will continue to be part of the Red Moose story. Our longtime employee of 10 years, Kortney Stringer, will be managing the cafe for the new owner. Her dedication, care, and passion for this place have been a huge part of what made it so special, and we know the Moose is in great hands.
We are confident that the heart and spirit of the Red Moose will carry on, and that it will continue to be a welcoming place for everyone to gather, connect, and enjoy. Thank you for 12 unforgettable years. We are deeply grateful for each and every one of you.
Your friends,
Steve and Jenny Traverso
