Thursday, February 5

08:34 - Two mountain lions were euthanized as a result of a public safety declaration issued after a confirmed depredation and follow-up sightings in Loyalton.

16:28 - Disabled vehicle on Highway 395.

18:55 - A deputy stopped a driver in Loyalton and conducted field sobriety tests. The driver was not impaired but was issued a traffic violation.

19:15 - Mountain lion sighting in Sierra Brooks. A deputy was not able to locate it.

19:41 - Investigation conducted.

Friday, February 6

04:04 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

08:17 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

10:34 - Agency assist in Sierraville.

12:05 - A livestock guardian dog was found west of Loyalton with injuries consistent with a predator encounter. The dog’s owner requested that the veterinarian treating the dog collect DNA samples to assist the Sheriff’s Office in determining whether a wolf, mountain lion, or coyote was responsible. However, “the veterinarian for unknown reasons declined to obtain samples after learning a wolf may have been involved.”

15:37 - The Sheriff’s Office and the US Department of Agriculture investigated a dead calf

on a Sierra Valley ranch. Officials determined a mountain lion was likely responsible. DNA samples were collected, and Fish and Wildlife analysis was requested.

15:59 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

16:54 - Report of a dog biting chickens and their owner in Calpine.

17:33 - Report of suspected elder abuse in Vinton. The report was passed along to another agency.

Saturday, February 7

12:02 - Civil standby requested for utility service notices in Sierraville.

12:34 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

16:36 - Report of a driver stuck in snow near Stampede Reservoir. The caller was concerned that the driver did not know how to drive in the snow and would not be able to get unstuck. Deputies attempted to locate the vehicle unsuccessfully, but did find potential signs that the driver made it out.

18:00 - Report of theft along Highway 49 near the western Sierra County border.

18:34 - Someone turned themselves in for a court commitment related to driving under the influence of alcohol.

20:01 - A caller requested a ride to a hotel to get away from a situation at home. Deputies were unable to recontact the caller but spoke with family members, who confirmed the caller was safe and sound.

20:21 - Report of a reckless driver in Sierra Brooks. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and admonished the driver.

Sunday, February 8

00:57 - A deputy found an injured animal in the roadway. The deputy deemed it necessary to euthanize the animal, after which it was removed from the road.

09:24 - Report of a dog bite in Loyalton.

09:27 - Notification of a controlled burn near Sierraville.

12:56 - Request for a civil standby in Downieville.

15:23 - Report of an unattended burn pile in Sierraville. It was found to be attended.

16:54 - Someone was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and child neglect near the Nevada border.

17:51 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.
