21:53 - Tree hanging over Hwy 49 a couple of miles south of Coyoteville; reported traffic hazard.

Tuesday, April 2

04:17- It’s quite possible the ringing of the telephone at the S.O. with an ambulance request beat the sound of morning birds chirping in Loyalton.

07:58 - A report of illegal campers in Downieville leads to speculation (on my part) that maybe some were just awaiting the reopening of La Cocina de Oro for the 2024 season. Yum. Can’t wait to dine at Feather’s restaurant.

08:47 - Report of harassment in Portola.

11:01 - Possible trespassing in Downieville

11:52 - Lunch will have to wait; request for civil service in Loyalton.

14:53 - Report of vandalism in Loyalton.

15:15 - Ambulance crews rush to respond to the second call of the day in Loyalton.

16:45 - No rest for the best - ambulance crews busy once again with another call in…Loyalton.

18:15 - Goodyears Bar will not be left out of the action today with a request for a citizen assistance.

20:54 - A fortunate soul was assisted by a Sierra County deputy all the way out at Hallelujah Junction. Well glory be!

Wednesday, April 3

04:50 - Early morning request for Pike City to help Camptonville with a fire call.

09:08 - Someone might have lit a match, rubbed sticks together, or done something to start a fire in Loyalton; report of a burn pile being lit at the dump.

09:49 - After scanning through what felt like miles of redacted print, big blotches of black ink covered specific details to the possible contribution of drugs and alcohol to a minor in Loyalton. Being the press - I carry a strong disdain for huge redactions. Being a parent - I am thrilled this privacy is in place. A conundrum indeed!

11:19 - There was plenty of time for coffee and donuts before the ambulance call in Loyalton. Well, forget the donuts, because when I think of ambulance crews, my mind drifts to seeing one paramedic doing pushups near his rig waiting for a call. So I’ll imagine they enjoyed a healthier breakfast before this medical call came; avocado toast.

11:41 - Calpine makes the blotter for the first time this week with a request for a welfare check.

12:05 - Lunch will have to wait. Request for an ambulance in Loyalton.

12:24 - Coroner’s case in Loyalton. My sincere condolences.

13:17 - Request to assist a citizen in Downieville.

14:05 - Request to assist a citizen in Loyalton.

15:40 - Possible trespassing in Loyalton. Well, courts also need civil matters to keep them busy.

16:06 - Driver appearing to be drunk in Loyalton led to report. It’s possible what was observed was reckless driving without alcohol involved. Who knows? Alas, I think of my daughter who has severely delayed learning how to drive and getting her license the last few years. She is torn between wanting to be on the road with her freedom and yet is terrified at the prospect of driving; the great responsibility thereof. Knowing how well she rides a bicycle, I am also terrified at the prospect of her driving a vehicle. Yet, such is life. Make good choices driving!

Thursday, April 4

10:52 - Petty theft of building materials reported in Loyalton. If true, stealing is pretty petty.

13:01 - Anytime animals are surrendered to a facility, it is a sad day. CHP found two stray dogs near the Yuba Co. and Sierra Co. line on Hwy 49. It’s probable these dogs would have met a dire fate being left to their own devices on the highway. CHP took them to the Yuba County animal shelter. Unfortunate, but necessary. Thank you CHP. Hope they find a great home!

15:11 - Report of financial elder abuse in Goodyears Bar. Ugh.

15:59 - Lift assistance request in Loyalton; ambulance needed for a transport to the hospital.

16:49 - Abandoned vehicle in Loyalton.

19:34 - Investigation in Loyalton is hush-hush. Confidential.

Friday, April 5

04:51 - Early morning request for an ambulance in Goodyears Bar.

12:16 - Sierra City makes this week’s blotter news. Accidental 911 call.

12:28 - Grand theft auto reported in Pike. Sidenote: probably one of my all-time greatest parent fails was finally caving and buying the game Grand Theft Auto for my son. Language is worse than mine, scenes atrocious and despicable. Subsequently, he is not allowed to play the game at my house anymore (simply this mom’s opinion, we have to pick our battles).

13:44 - 911 hang up in Downieville.

13:55 - Arrest made in Downieville after a report of being drunk in public.
