Monday, May 26

01:31 - The Sheriff’s Office dispatch helped someone get to the Yuba River Trailhead for a rest before continuing a drive.

10:37 - Mutual aid requested from Sierra County Fire for a vegetation fire in Plumas County. The request was canceled when Plumas County found it had enough resources.

11:33 - Loose calf on Smithneck Road. The owner was contacted to handle it.

11:58 - Report of a vehicle crash with injuries on Highway 49 near Depot Hill. Sacramento Highway Patrol was notified. The injured party denied care against medical advice.

16:41 - An iPhone fell out of a vehicle, causing it to report a vehicle crash to the Sheriff’s Office automatically. The phone was located by deputies and returned to its owner, who had been searching for it.

17:48 - A backpack was left behind at Cold Rush in Downieville. The backpack was given to the Sheriff’s Office, but it was discovered cash had been removed. A deputy made contact with the owner and generated a report.

18:26 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

19:55 - A physical altercation occurred on Main Street in Downieville, with one party repeatedly pushing the other. Although there were no injuries, the pushed party wanted to press charges, and a deputy gave information on how to acquire a restraining order.

20:57 - Someone reported that a “strange vehicle” was following the person on Highway 49 between Yuba Pass and Downieville. A deputy could not locate the caller or the following vehicle.

23:32 - Someone reported that the Sheriff’s Office in Loyalton was making too much noise and requested they quiet down. Later, the caller determined the noise wasn’t coming from the Sheriff’s Office and no longer wanted a response.

Tuesday, May 27

08:11 - Report of someone on the roadway at the Loyalton Elementary School yelling at a motorist. Deputies could not locate anyone.

08:27 - Report of a court order violation in Reno.

09:32 - Report of speeding near the Loyalton Schools. The caller requested extra patrols during school drop-off and pick-up hours.

09:46 - A report of vandalism in Loyalton was determined to be unfounded by deputies.

09:47 - Possible wolf problem in Vinton was found to be a coyote problem.

10:42 - Citation issued by Highway Patrol for an over-length semi at Bassetts.

12:04 - Civil service could not be completed in the North San Juan area.

15:30 - Extra patrol requested in the Haskell Creek area due to suspicious activity.

18:08 - Someone called about a dispute related to ongoing civil issues over a property near Bassetts co-owned with family members. A deputy attempted to advise the caller, but no Sheriff’s Office response was warranted.

19:10 - The Tahoe National Forest conducted fire readiness training at the Sierraville shooting range.

22:48 - A Loyalton resident reported that a neighbor had been shining a bright light into the caller’s residence in retaliation for a call to the Sheriff’s Office made earlier in the day. The light was extinguished after a deputy responded, and the deputy performed area checks throughout the night.

Wednesday, May 28

10:00 - An attack on a calf at the Williams Ranch in Plumas County was confirmed to be the work of a wolf by a USDA trapper. The trapper collected two DNA swabs for the Sheriff’s Office.

11:50 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

16:24 - Report of someone walking in the woods near Lower Sardine Campground with a rifle. The type of rifle was unknown.

19:03 - Welfare check requested for an Alleghany friend of the caller. The Sheriff’s Office was able to contact a family member and confirm the subject was safe and sound.

23:05 - Report that a neighbor had been purposely disturbing the peace by “banging kitchen items outside” and yelling obscenities. Deputies made contact with both parties, and the incident became a civil matter that will be handled in court.

Thursday, May 29

08:37 - A dead calf at Sierra Valley Ranch in Sierra County was suspected to be a wolf depredation by ranchers. Though the Sheriff’s Office determined a probable wolf depredation, no DNA samples could be collected due to the extent of damage to the carcass.

12:37 - A report of credit card fraud in Sierraville will be investigated.

13:08 - Abandoned vehicles parked on the street in Loyalton are to be removed by the owner.

15:56 - Investigation in Downieville.

17:16 - A dog at large found in Ladies Canyon by Sierra County Probation was successfully returned to its owner.

17:54 - A third party reported a verbal altercation between family members. Deputies made contact, but the family members did not want Sheriff’s Office assistance, and no crime had occurred.

20:54 - Vehicle versus deer incident occurred in Plumas County near Beckwourth. The Sheriff’s Office relayed the information to Highway Patrol and the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office.

21:20 - Report of an overdue hiker in the Sierra Buttes area. Before a deputy could perform a search, the overdue party contacted the caller, and no assistance was needed.

22:16 - Report that an individual in Sierraville was on private property “talking about conspiracies.” The individual left on foot after the property owners requested he do so, and no Sheriff’s Office response was required.

Friday, May 30

04:31 - The Sheriff’s Office received an open 911 call from a cell phone near Stampede Reservoir. There were no voices or sounds of distress before the call was ended by the cell phone. Return calls were not answered, and the Sheriff’s Office could not respond due to no information or confirmation of location.

04:49 - Report that a vehicle had hit a shed and that no driver could be found at the scene. Highway Patrol was tasked with handling the situation.

07:03 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

09:39 - Arrest made at the Sierraville gas station on charges of criminal threats and assault.

11:44 - Civil service successfully completed at the Downieville Courthouse.

11:46 - Civil service successfully served in Downieville.

13:19 - Probation checks were conducted in Cromberg.

13:39 - Accidental 911 call from Sierraville.

13:53 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

14:36 - Accidental 911 text message sent from the Forest area.

16:31 - Report of possible harassment near Sierraville.

18:30 - Cow in the road near the Loyalton Elementary School.

18:56 - A possible drunk driver was reported to be on Main Street in Downieville, but a deputy could not locate the vehicle.

21:02 - Report of a vehicle versus tree incident on Highway 89 in Plumas County. Plumas County Fire, Medical, and Highway Patrol responded. No Sierra County response was needed.

Saturday, May 31

01:57 - Ambulance requested somewhere along Highway 49.

09:45 - Report of a juvenile driving an ATV recklessly in Loyalton.

10:04 - Report of someone using an open-flame cooking top near Sierra City. The Forest Service was notified.

12:21 - Report of a bear problem in Verdi. Fish and Wildlife was notified.

14:00 - Property found at Henness Pass.

15:10 - Report of dogs chasing livestock in the Pike area. The dog owner ensured they were secured.

17:58 - Vehicle repossession in Loyalton.

19:07 - An agency requested assistance with locating campers to inform them of their residence burning down. It was determined that the campers were in Nevada County, and the task was handed over to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.

19:11 - A deputy administered field sobriety tests during a traffic stop at Depot Hill, but the driver was determined not to be impaired.

19:58 - An unknown suspect stole an ATV, but it was later found and recovered.

21:45 - Numerous bovines on the A-24 road near Loyalton. A rancher was able to herd them back through a fence.

23:15 - Report of a large illegal burn pile on a Sierra Brooks property. Loyalton Fire spoke with the homeowner, and the pile was extinguished.

Sunday, June 1

12:27 - Overdue party in the Downieville area.

12:32 - Report of shots fired in the forest near Mills Peak.

12:35 - Request for a welfare check in Sierra City.

12:37 - Ambulance requested in Pike.

15:11 - Lost property in the Downieville area.

16:36 - Abandoned vehicle in the forest near Gold Lake.

18:54 - A possible Plumas County coroner’s case was referred to the proper authorities.
