Monday, August 4

08:22 - The Sheriff’s Office assisted another agency in locating a person who had gone missing in Nevada. The subject was located near Lookout Campground in Sierra County and transported back to a Nevada residence.

15:03 - Abandoned vehicle and possible mineral theft in western Sierra County.

15:06 - Report of illegal campers near Downieville.

15:36 - Confirmed wolf attack on a calf in the Sierra Valley. The calf was euthanized due to low likelihood of survival. The sheriff says the attack marked 16 consecutive days of wolf attacks in the Valley.

17:22 - Extra patrol requested in Pike.

19:13 - Single vehicle rollover crash near Loyalton. The Highway Patrol, Fire Department, ambulance, and Sheriff’s Office responded.

21:27 - Wallet found at Bassetts Station.

Tuesday, August 5

08:12 - Investigation in Sierra City.

10:52 - Report of a possible wolf attack on Sierra Valley cattle, but it was found that no attack occurred.

11:10 - Ambulance requested in Calpine.

11:58 - Possible scam reported in Sierra City.

13:39 - Ambulance requested in Downieville.

14:11 - Information provided to the Sheriff’s Office.

15:26 - Possible crash reported in the Lakes Basin area.

16:45 - Report of scam calls out-of-county in Portola.

17:01 - Report of suspicious bones found in the Alleghany area. A deputy responded and opened an investigation.

17:48 - Investigation in Downieville.

18:16 - The Sheriff’s Office assisted with a crash in the Reno area.

23:46 - Someone was cited for driving with an expired license in Sierraville.

Wednesday, August 6

08:46 - Possible wolf problem at a ranch near Calpine.

09:54 - Cow on Highway 49 near Loyalton.

12:22 - Phone found near Sardine Lake Lodge. The owner retrieved the phone from the Sheriff’s Office.

16:24 - Report of a scam in Loyalton.

17:43 - Report of an automated detection of a fire by an iPhone at Sardine Campground. The fire department found no fire.

Thursday, August 7

07:51 - Information provided to the Sheriff’s Office.

10:19 - Possible wolf problem in the Sierra Valley near Beckwourth.

10:20 - Possible wolf kill of a calf near Sattley. While GPS tracking collars showed wolf activity in the pasture the night before, the cause of death could not be determined by a Department of Agriculture trapper due to not enough of the carcass remaining.

13:39 - A calf went missing from a Sierra Valley ranch. Possibly another take by a wolf.

14:31 - Ambulance requested in Sattley.

14:34 - Possible juvenile issue in Verdi, but no crime was deemed to have occurred.

15:43 - Disabled vehicle blocking a roadway in eastern Sierra County. Susanville Highway Patrol was notified.

17:12 - Possible harassment and stalking in Downieville.

18:10 - Report of bridge jumpers in Downieville. A deputy could not locate any.

18:16 - Report of possible illegal campers in Downieville, but the caller was informed that the location was a legal campsite.

19:52 - Civil service in the Downieville area.

20:54 - Report of livestock at the junction of Smithneck Road and Highway 49. A deputy could not locate any.

Friday, August 8

00:11 - Report of a possible homicide south of Sierra Brooks. An arrest was made, and the case remains under investigation.

09:25 - Report of someone along Highway 49 near Ladies Canyon. Medical personnel transported the person to the hospital.

10:48 - Assistance requested for someone who may have needed mental health services. The caller was connected with the Human Services department.

11:58 - Ambulance requested near Union Flat campground.

12:02 - Parking problem at the pizza parlor in Downieville.

12:07 - Report of theft from a Calpine property. The property was returned, and the suspect was trespassed from the property.

13:17 - Report that a vehicle had crashed into a building in Downieville. The Highway Patrol was notified.

16:44 - Extra patrol requested to address potential private property parking issues in Downieville.

18:24 - Report of a possible out-of-control fire near the state border. Fire crews found nothing.

19:11 - Coroner’s case for the suspected homicide victim from earlier in the morning.

20:25 - Possible impaired driver on Highway 49 near Downieville. Sacramento Highway Patrol was notified.

Saturday, August 9

00:38 - Report of ongoing death threats made in the Loyalton area. Deputies were not able to make contact with the caller when attempting to meet up.

08:38 - Ambulance requested in Sierraville.

08:57 - Welfare check requested in Goodyear Bar, but the subject could not be found.

09:25 - Report of a confirmed wolf kill of livestock on a Sierra Valley ranch.

09:27 - Report of a confirmed wolf kill with DNA collected at another Sierra Valley ranch.

09:43 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

10:46 - Report of a large dead calf in a pasture near Sierraville. It was determined not to have died by wolf attack.

11:28 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.

17:20 - Accidental 9-1-1 call from Downieville.

17:36 - Report of a fire near Packer Lake, but it could not be found by responders.

18:14 - Report of a possible intoxicated driver on Highway 49 near Downieville. A deputy conducted a traffic stop and found the driver was not impaired.

18:39 - Illegally parked vehicle in a fire lane. A deputy was able to locate and admonish the owner.

18:52 - A caller lost a phone and other items in Downieville. Unfortunately, the Sheriff’s Office hadn’t received any found property.

19:30 - Civil dispute in Rough and Ready.

19:50 - Motorcyclists were chasing deer in the Sierra Brooks area. Contact was made, and the riders were admonished.

20:05 - 9-1-1 call received with no information. The Sheriff’s Office could not respond.

20:12 - A vehicle had one of its tires slashed in the Downieville area. A third party made the report, so the Sheriff’s Office will only go forward with the investigation if the vehicle owner contacts the office. A deputy took pictures for that eventuality.

20:30 - Report that someone was harassing people in front of the St. Charles in Downieville. A deputy was unable to locate the harasser.

20:41 - Possible illegal campfire near Verdi.

Sunday, August 10

02:16 - Ambulance requested in Sierra City.

07:50 - Illegal open wood fire at a campsite on Smithneck Road near Sierra Brooks. The campers were admonished.

07:50 - Civil dispute in Rough and Ready.

08:12 - Report that someone had gotten a car stuck near Verdi and was working on getting it unstuck.

09:25 - Report of a wolf attack on cattle in the Sierra Valley.

11:09 - Report of a found dog on Highway 49 near Downieville. The owners were located.

12:14 - Information provided to the Sheriff’s Office.

23:06 - Report of subjects being loud in Sierra City at night. A deputy responded and told the subjects to keep it down.
