Sierra County Fish and Wildlife Commission Thank You for Smithneck Creek Restoration

July 24, 2025

Editor,

We extend our appreciation to the numerous partners who coordinated a Community Action Restoration Day within last year’s Bear Fire by working to restore Smithneck Creek, seeding, and removing noxious weeds. Organizations include the Feather River Chapter of Trout Unlimited, US Forest Service Sierraville Ranger District, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Sierra Valley Resource Conservation District, Loyalton Rotary Club, Sierra Brooks Firewise, Keep America Beautiful, Keep California Beautiful, California Volunteers, and the Loyalton students, parents and teachers who worked so hard. The benefits extend beyond the acres restored by supporting the recovery of everything that passes through the area in the future and by expanding the knowledge, experience, and imagination of all who participated. Special thanks to the many agency personnel who shared their expertise and to Cindy Noble for envisioning and fostering a spirit of community engagement.
