DOWNIEVILLE — The Sierra County Board of Supervisors will present a Resolution of Appreciation for retired United Parcel Service (UPS) driver Garitt Cox on Tuesday. Garitt is beloved in western Sierra County and beyond for going above and beyond his duties as a delivery driver and embedding himself in the community.

Garitt retired on September 1, 2025, after an almost 35-year career with UPS. He began “relief driving” in western Sierra County in 1997, but fully inherited the route in 2020 following the retirement of Kevin Miller. He developed personal connections with hundreds of residents along his route, and often went out of his way to accommodate customer requests. Despite the rural, challenging conditions of his route, especially in winter, Garitt reliably delivered essential supplies to communities in need.

The Resolution of Appreciation for Garitt will be presented at the Board of Supervisors Chambers at the Downieville Courthouse on Tuesday, November 4, at 10 AM, in a meeting open to the public. The resolution explains, “everyone he encountered on a delivery has a ‘Garitt story’ to tell, of a friendly smile, a kind word, and a dependable presence who brightened even the most remote doorsteps of Sierra County.” It commends Garitt for his outstanding service, professionalism, and decades of commitment to the people of Sierra County, and wishes him the best in his well-earned retirement.
