The Sacramento Kings season is officially underway! While they started their first game, in Utah against the Jazz, as 1.5-point favorites, they ended up winning by 16. It was a pretty steady victory, never really in question, with 31-year-old small forward Harrison Barnes having the most notable performance for the Kings, with 33 points; they beat the Jazz 130-114. Just as I was wondering when the media was going to start showing the Kings some respect, they (and I) were humbled yet again by Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, who you’ll remember put the Kings’ playoffs dreams to an end in the first round last year. It was an exciting game; even after Curry caught fire and scored 16 points in the third quarter to put the Warriors up by 15, the Kings, with the help of last year’s Clutch Player of the Year, De’Aaron Fox, managed to bring the score back within five points in the last two minutes of the game. Unfortunately, it was too little too late, and Curry still had yet another 3-pointer in him, and the Kings fell to the Warriors 114-122. Two days later, the Kings welcomed LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers to the Golden 1 Center for our real first nail-biter of a game. The worst part was watching Fox go to the locker room with a twisted ankle with 7:27 left in the 4th quarter. Somehow, Fox managed to come back after less than a minute and lead the Kings to overtime and eventually the victory of 132-127.
While I’m thankful for Fox and that amazing victory (I don’t know if there’s anyone I’d rather beat than the Lakers), you could tell he was in pain. Now, he’s not going to be available when the Kings take on the Warriors in San Francisco on Wednesday, November 1st. I just checked, and without Fox, the bookmakers are expecting the Warriors to win by 7.5! Hopefully, Fox’s injury isn’t too bad, and we’ll see him back soon. The Kings play two games in Houston against the Rockets on Saturday, November 4th, and Monday, November 6th, and then will be back at home against the Portland Trail Blazers next Wednesday, November 8th. While the Warriors will be tough to beat, I know the Kings will give it their all, and I’m hoping for a shocking victory, like the one I just watched between the Phoenix Suns and the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, October 31st. If you want to see a literal example of stealing the victory, look up the end of that game!
Can I also throw in some exciting football news? The Raiders fired their head coach, Josh McDaniels! I hope the Raiders can find their “coach Brown.” Until next week, everyone, go Kings!
