STAMPEDE RESERVOIR — At around 3:25 AM the morning of Sunday, October 6th, the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a significant fire located in a remote area on Merrill Peak north of Stampede Reservoir. While Fire Departments responded, deputies were dispatched to investigate a person of interest present at the site of the fire.
Glenn Scribner, 58, from Reno, Nevada, was suspected by deputies to be under the influence of a controlled substance and was experiencing hallucinations. After interviewing him and fire personnel, Scribner was arrested on the charge of arson. He was transported to Tahoe Forest Hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Nevada County Jail.
The fire was quickly contained by the US Forest Service, Sierra County Fire, and Roen dozer crew personnel, who kept the blaze to under two acres. The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office and US Forest Service Law Enforcement are still actively investigating the incident and are unable to release any additional information at this time.
