The Mountain Messenger Gains Another Assistant Editor!

Ryan Steinwert at The Mountain Messenger

DOWNIEVILLE - The Mountain Messenger is thrilled to report “website Guru” Ryan Steinwert has been promoted to the role of Assistant Editor. After making a phone call to Editor Carl Butz on Wednesday night, May 31, requesting to change his title and giving him a fitting promotion, Butz responded with, “Absolutely!”.

Graduating from U.C. Santa Cruz in 2021 with a Bachelor of Computer Science degree, Steinwert has proved to be an asset to the paper with his education and experience. Bringing The Mountain Messenger newspaper into the 21st century into an online version back in February of 2022, he has proved instrumental in maintaining our online edition, working remotely from his home in the Bay Area.

It should be noted the financial backing of The Mountain Messenger’s Columnist, Lenny Ackerman, who writes our “Here Back East” column made it possible for the creation of the online paper and has been the sole benefactor of Steinwert’s previous salary working remotely and now his full-time summer work.

Arriving in Downieville on Monday, May 29, to work from The Mountain Messenger, his partnership was greatly appreciated in the production of the June 1, 2023 edition. His input will be highly valued going forward.

Steinwert is not new to Downieville. His parents are locals Scott Steinwert and Laurie Halliday, who community members have watched all the stages of their lovely home being renovated. Mountain biking has been a father and son activity, as Steinwert spent most summers of his youth in Downieville and was on the mountain bike racing team at his high school.

From one Assistant Editor to another…Congratulations Ryan!
