NEVADA CITY — Two Nevada City Police officers were hit by a vehicle on Highway 49 near the Broad Street onramp on Sunday, September 15th, just before 1:00 AM. The officers were responding to an unrelated collision between a vehicle and a bear and were in the process of placing flares for traffic control. The offending driver drove through the flares, hitting both officers and causing severe injuries.
One of the struck officers was able to radio for emergency medical aid, which arrived quickly. Both officers were transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, one by air ambulance. Both are recovering quickly and have already been discharged from the hospital. The Nevada City Police Department thanked the community for all the support, thoughts, and prayers they received.
Geoffrey Arlin Rodgers was booked around 5:30 AM Sunday Morning
The driver, identified as Geoffrey Arlin Rodgers, a 28-year-old from Grass Valley, was determined by the CHP to have been under the influence. He was arrested on a felony charge of Driving Under the Influence Causing Bodily Injury, and his bail was set at $75,000.
