Picking up where we left off last week.At this point (nearly a month into my adventure), there was only one Snowmageddon issue remaining that was significantly impairing my return to a somewhat uncomplicated and carefree existence. And that was: being freed from my personal snow prison. The day after the restoration of my water, and after just barely receiving enough snow melt to attempt some experimental cowboy trail-breaking maneuvers, it was finally time to bring in the big boy Tonka truck. (Told you I’d eventually get to this part in the story.)A few weeks prior, a wonderful young man named A.J. had offered to try to break trail for me with his amazing monster truck. Monster truck with monster tires and a monster lift. He would come to my driveway fully chained up and primed for the mission at hand. We had agreed to wait for more snow to melt before attempting such a crazy and dangerous ascent. And now that day had finally arrived! The first thing we did was set in place a sort

Snowed in Feb 22, officially busted out March 19thThe most exciting news is that after nearly a month of lockdown at the ‘Igloo Pokey’, I was finally busted out of my snow prison by a wonderful young man with his big boy Tonka truck. Yippee! But before I tell you that story, like the last update, there are a few interesting snippets and angel-like happenings that led up to my long overdue emancipation. So here we go:Last post, I reported the good news that after 11 days of going without electricity, my power was finally restored. Since then (I must confess) the majority of my time was spent voraciously indulging in all things electricity-oriented. Like a starved and ravenous wild-child who had just emerged from her primitive wilderness existence to discover the many luxuries of modern technology, I went a little crazy. I immediately turned on every light in the house, let the fire go out (in lieu of the blasting heat now emanating from my wondrous electric heat dish) and bin

Day 11 of no electricity, 17 days snowed inYippee!! And just like that, the lights are back on! Suffice it to say; I am one very happy camper right now.And yet, that's only part of the story. Shall I continue? For those of you who have been following this crazy Snowmageddon saga, today was so much more than the restoration of electricity. It was a day of soul restoration, as well. With lots of magic! As you could probably tell from my last writing, the longer the power outage, the more my patience and optimism began to fade. And after a few more ups and downs regarding a possible restoration date, the last threads of my positivity finally unraveled when hit by the news that it might be yet another week to get our power restored -on top of the already 10-day outage we had just survived. So...not only did 'Pollyanna' die a miserable death, but grumpiness and depression quickly rallied to fill her boots.Immediately following the PG&E update, I allowed myself a full-blown tod

Hi readers…allow me to introduce myself: My name is Lynn. I am a 65 year (young?) mountain woman living high on a hilltop in a cabin my father and I built together in the inspiring and gloriously beautiful countryside of Sierra County. As you may have heard (or experienced first-hand), we had quite the winter here this year. And because many of my long-distance friends were concerned as to how I was faring and requested I keep them updated; I began chronicling some of my adventures on social media. What began as a few relatively uneventful updates describing our typical snow inconveniences and power outages quickly transformed into the telling of tales of adventures far outside the norms of daily mountain existence. The longer the days of being snowed in ticked by, the more my adventures became wilder, crazier, and even downright magical. So, after multiple requests, I'm now sharing some of these 'around the campfire' stories here in our wonderful local paper. Since ma
