Hundreds participate in Downieville’s “Fireless Fireworks”
DOWNIEVILLE — Main Street in Downieville was once again shut down for a day of parades, foot races, and festivities. This year, the parade featured several unique entrants, including a Flintstones-themed trailer and an Olympic tribute, along with classic entries from the Fire Department, Forest Service, and Downieville Museum. The Downieville Lions Club sponsored the parade’s finale of “fireless fireworks,” in which hundreds stomped on three 250’ long rolls of bubble wrap to simulate the sound of fireworks. The Lions Club also sold burgers and polish dogs from their booth next to the Downieville Bell Tower. After the final bubbles had been popped, the parade gave way to the annual 4th of July foot races and tug-of-war, the pictures and results of which will be published in a separate article.
