The Forest Service has been conducting a controlled burn on a designated 300 acres of Tahoe National Forest land to reduce wildfire risks as part of the Yuba Project. According to Forest Service announcements, an “underburn” began on October 8th, expecting to complete 165 acres. Burning was cut short after 80 acres due to high winds on October 10th, and then rains caused further delay. The Forest Service is waiting for fuels to dry out before resuming the underburn.
