DOWNIEVILLE — The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a series of vehicle break-ins that occurred during the late-night hours of January 12 and the early morning hours of January 13, 2026, in the community of Downieville.
On the morning of January 13, 2026, Sierra County Dispatch received multiple reports from residents who discovered their vehicles had been unlawfully entered. The incidents appear to have occurred primarily in the area of Commercial Street and Pearl Street. Several residential security cameras captured images of a subject walking past homes during the early morning hours.
Person of Interest Description:
The individual is described as a young adult, approximately late teens to mid-20s, of average height and slim to average build. They were wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, brown camouflage pants, and light-colored (possibly white) athletic shoes.
The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying this individual. Residents who may recognize this person, or who have security cameras, doorbell cameras, dash cameras, or other video surveillance in the area, are encouraged to review their footage and share any photos or videos that may assist investigators.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant, ensure all vehicles and residences are locked, and promptly report any suspicious activity.
