Assemblywoman Hadwick Selected for Prestigious Rodel Fellowship

SACRAMENTO — First District Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick (Republican of Alturas) has been chosen to participate in the Rodel Fellowship, Class of 2027. The Rodel Fellowship is a national nonpartisan leadership development program for young elected officials. Its founding vision since 2005 has been to counter the growing polarization of American politics.

Each year, 24 fellows from state and local government, divided equally among the major political parties, are selected to join in a series of multi-day seminars over a 2-year period. They work with leading scholars to read and discuss foundational texts on ethical values, democratic principles, and wise and effective leadership, such as the Declaration of Independence, the preamble to the United States Constitution, and writings by Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Jr., and others.

California alumni of the program include former Vice President Kamala Harris, Senator Alex Padilla, Attorney General Rob Bonta, former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, State Treasurer Fiona Ma, and former Assembly Republican Leaders Kristin Olsen and Chad Mayes.

Hadwick is the only California official in the 2027 class. “This is an incredible honor, especially as I finish my first term in the Assembly,” Hadwick said in a press release. “I came to Sacramento determined to work hard, build relationships with my colleagues and deliver results for the people of District 1. Being selected for this fellowship is meaningful recognition of that approach, and I’m grateful to the colleagues who saw something in my work and leadership.”

Assembly District 1 covers 11 northern California counties, including Nevada, Sierra, Plumas, and Lassen Counties.
