Dear Editor,
For more than twenty years I have been compiling the “At the Firehouse” column for The Mountain Messenger at the request of the Downieville Fire Department. Due to budget constraints within the Department, I have been let go, and will no longer be reporting on the activities of our local Fire Departments (Alleghany, Calpine, Downieville, Loyalton, Pike City, Sattley, & Sierraville).
“At the Firehouse” was started in the early 2000s by Cyndy Forbes, an EMT for Downieville Fire Department. The idea is to give all the courageous volunteers in our local Fire Departments recognition for all of their hard work. When Cyndy Forbes moved away, (then) Fire Chief Lee Brown asked me to continue the column in The Mountain Messenger. Thank you, Lee Brown.
Thank you, to all the staff at The Mountain Messenger, past & present. Thank you to each and every volunteer who responds without hesitation, possibly risking their life, to save another. Thank you to every person, too many to name individually, who has helped compile each week’s activities. It has been an honor to work with all of you!
Victoria Tenney
