Big Springs Press Release
October 14, 2025
While the yoga and meditation retreats have wrapped up for the 2025 season, two separate fall concerts of dynamic “world music” are on tap for late October and early November. On Saturday, October 25, from 5 – 8 PM, the high-energy, beautifully realized traditional Celtic outfit, the “Low Coals,” will be performing in the Center’s stunning Meeting Hall. Rooted in Nevada County and students of the internationally acclaimed Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser, the Low Coals will bring their collective take on both traditional and original Celtic-rooted jigs, reels, and ballads. There will be room to get out of your chair(s) as the “Coals” have a history of getting folks up and moving as the evening unfolds. Reservations are strongly encouraged as seats are limited. A light food buffet is included with admission and will be available from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. Reservations can be made by contacting Chris Stockdale at (530) 277-6408 or cstockrock@gmail.com.
Mahsa and Marjan Vahdat.
On Saturday, November 1, you will have the opportunity to attend a concert featuring the universally acclaimed Iranian vocalist sisters, Mahsa and Marjan Vahdat. Accompanied by setarist Atabak Elyasi, the trio performs music rooted in traditional Persian classical music. With voices that carry both intimacy and power, the sisters bridge the past and present while weaving poetry, classical and regional Iranian music, and contemporary expression into a unique musical language. Gates will open at noon (concert 2 – 5 PM), and attendees are welcome to come early to picnic and enjoy the gardens before the musical performance begins. Tickets for this show are available online at Eventbrite or at the gate. Both shows will go on rain or shine. Should it be a rainy day, the Dining Hall will be open and provide ample shelter from the storm. Information can be obtained by contacting Big Springs Garden & Retreat at info@bigspringsretreat.org or by reaching out to Chris Stockdale (see contact info above). Both shows will showcase music and musicians that will afford you, the audience, truly memorable experiences. See ya at the “Springs”!
