Lio was born on the family ranch in Tepecatitia Otaez Mexico on March 26, 1973. The first time he came to the United States was in 2002. Lio spent most of his time in Sierra City and worked here locally. He was well known for always riding his bike up and down Main street. Lio was also a pretty good pool player, something that you wouldn’t expect. He learned it from Bob Morales at the old Sierra City Hotel some time ago. He would win more often than he would lose. Dave Black and Rick Hertzberg were also very important figures in Lio’s life. Helping him to learn and grow as a person and always being close and kind to him. Lio was very fond of them both and missed them dearly after they passed. The Nevarez family would like to thank the Sierra County Sheriff's Office and both the Downieville and the Sierra City Fire and Rescue units for their efforts to recover and attempt to resuscitate Lio that fateful evening. We would also like to send our heartfelt gratitude to all the community members who have shown us so much kindness and support during this difficult time. Lio is survived by his mother, Gurillerma, many brothers and sisters and his four children. His sons, Vicente, Bernado, Oscar and his daughter, Lourdes. Lio also has three grandchildren in Mexico. Lio is heading home to be near his family and internment will be at the family grave site in Tepecatitia Otaez, Durango, Mexico A celebration of life will be held in Sierra City on March 26, 2023 at the park in the Sierra City's flats or the community hall, weather permitting from 1 p.m. until dark. Everyone who knew Lio is invited to stop by and share your memories with the family. Leo was a kind soul and was always helping all of us. May peace be with our brother, uncle, father and friend.March 26, 1973 – January 26, 2023
