REDDING — CalTrans announced in a press release issued April 1 that work for the final season of the three-year Cromberg Combined Rehabilitation Project on State Highway 70 is expected to begin this week. The project aims to restore the roadway and improve ride quality, while widening the shoulders, improving drainage, and adding safety features, according to CalTrans. Drivers traveling between Beckwourth and Quincy during the last two years have experienced delays at various locations as work on the project has progressed.
A schedule circulated by Caltrans last week indicates that crews will be working to widen the roadway between Meadow Way and Grizzly Road east of Portola from 7 AM to 5 PM every day during the week starting April 6. Delays of up to 15 minutes are expected.
CalTrans also expects to begin drainage work in the Cromberg area, which may cause delays up to 10 minutes, but that work is not shown on the schedule for the current week.
