MCRC Press Release

GRAEAGLE — It is a sure sign of spring. Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration held on May 5. The event commemorates the Mexican army’s defeat of the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It’s a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, but it’s a big deal in Plumas County each year. As usual, this year, the fundraiser will be held on May 5, 2025, at the fire hall in downtown Graeagle.
The fun begins with a social hour and a no-host bar, starting at 5 PM. Dinner is served buffet style at 6 PM with a choice of cheese or chicken enchiladas along with rice and beans. This year, the food is catered by Marha’s Kitchen in Cromberg. The cost is $30 per person, which supports the Mohawk Community Resource Center (MCRC) in Blairsden. The Resource Center is located near the corner barn, at the intersection of Highways 89 and 70. Tickets are available only at the MCRC and only when attended by volunteers. Patrons should call ahead at 530-293-7172. Hours are Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM and Wednesdays from 10 AM to 3:30 PM.
The MCRC is an important part of the community. It serves by providing senior lunches, exercise classes, a toddlers playgroup, a lending library, and computer access for all comers. Revenue from the Cinco celebration is a major source of the funds that allow the Center to continue.
