QUINCY — District 4 Supervisor Mimi Hall confirmed at the June 3 meeting of the Plumas County Board of Supervisors that the county has received official notice that Quincy’s Rite Aid pharmacy will be closing. Pharmacy owners are required by law to give relevant authorities advance notice of intent to close.
A copy of the official notice provided by Supervisor Hall says that the Quincy store will close permanently, effective July 2, 2025. Nine employees represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers union will be transferred or terminated if comparable positions are unavailable.
Rite Aid’s notice, dated May 29, gives pharmacy clients just over 30 days to transfer their prescriptions to another pharmacy. According to Karen Schad, owner of the independent Quincy Pharmacy, patients can transfer their prescriptions by contacting the pharmacy they want to change to, and that pharmacy will handle the process. Plumas County has locally-owned pharmacies in Portola and Chester, as well as in Quincy, but none currently open evenings or weekends.
