Dan is now in God’s hands. He passed away peacefully at home in Downieville early Saturday morning, August 16th, after suffering from pancreatic cancer for the last few months.
Dan and his wife, Ingrid, came to Downieville from Santa Rosa, California, in late 2000 to purchase the Downieville Grocery, which they operated until 2011. Dan operated the store’s Deli and was known for his soups, sandwiches, rotisserie chickens, prime rib, and other delightful, tasty, and innovative creations. Since then, he has enjoyed woodworking and, more recently, making rings out of wood and other materials.
Dan and Ingrid are also known for starting the famous Downieville Fireless Fireworks at the end of the 4th of July parade some 20 years ago.
Dan will be missed by all who loved him: his wife, Ingrid; his adult children: Mishell, Heidi, Robbie, and Ame; Ingrid’s sons, Chip and Andy; the grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; and everyone else who knew him.
A huge thank you to all of the Downieville friends who have helped so that Dan could pass away peacefully at home.
A Celebration of Dan’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 2 PM at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 West Main Street, Grass Valley, California. (A Downieville gathering to remember Dan will also be planned and announced at a later date.)
In lieu of flowers, donations to Sierra Frontier Medical Resources, Inc., P.O. Box 393, Downieville, CA 95936, are welcomed.
Dan’s earthly body is no more, but his spirit will thrive forever and ever. “...Death has been swallowed up in victory” (1 Corinthians 15:54).
