DOWNIEVILLE — On Saturday, from 10 AM to 3 PM, residents and visitors will gather along Main Street for holiday cheer at the Downieville Fire Auxiliary’s annual “Holiday on Main” celebration. Families can participate in a variety of activities that capture the warm, small-town spirit of Downieville. Organizers expect a large crowd of local families, neighbors, and out-of-town guests ready to shop and connect.

The festivities begin with a town passport scavenger hunt. Participants collect stamps from participating businesses to enter a drawing for a gift basket at 2 PM. Shoppers can visit artisan vendors at the craft fair inside the Community Hall on Main Street, where they pick up passports while enjoying food booths and upstairs craft tables. Main Street businesses will contribute by offering warm drinks, face painting, and seasonal treats, along with baked goods, lunch options, coffee, spa products, and fine arts. Children especially can enjoy ornament decorating sessions, followed by a visit from Santa Claus between noon and 2 PM in the hall. Spots for craft vendors are still available for $25 per table. Interested parties should email theresacheri@gmail.com.

In the afternoon, a children’s holiday show and dessert auction will take place at the Yuba Theatre from 4 to 5 PM. Afterward, the community Christmas tree will be lit at the gazebo. Santa will appear again during the tree-lighting ceremony, joined by a sing-along, hot cocoa, and goodies. The Downieville Improvement Group and the Lions Club of Downieville sponsor these closing activities.

“Holiday on Main is one of Downieville’s most cherished events,” organizers noted in a press release. “It’s a chance for the community to come together, support local businesses, and enjoy the magic of the season.” Organizers also encourage everyone to dress in layers against the winter chill and arrive early to experience the full lineup of activities.
