Downieville Slammed Shut by Snow-Induced Power Outage

DOWNIEVILLE - After several days of intermittent snow storms lasting from early Thursday through on Monday afternoon, high winds and uninterruped snowfall brought blizzard conditions to Downieville on Monday night. By mid-morning on Tuesday the town lost electricity when a PG&E line went down on the west side of town.

However, the high winds and heavy snow coming down in horizontal flows continuing throughout Tuesday afternoon and evening eventually brought down several large conifers across Main Street on the eastern side of town around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday night. When these trees went down twelve power poles were brought to the ground.

Unfortunately, with plenty of other issues in Nevada and Yuba counties, PG&E was not able to have any crews in town to address the problem until late on Wednesday afternoon. Good news for the kids, though, there is no school scheduled tomorrow.
