Elementary students trick-or-treating at the Fire DepartmentAn annual tradition in the Downieville School, Halloween morning brought out 31 princesses, ninjas, superheroes, witches, and others trick-or-treating our local businesses. Starting at the fire station, the “elementary centipede” paraded their costumes very orderly down Main Street, then over to the courthouse, meandering through the various offices, back out through the basement door, and then back to school. The kids braved the cold and collected bags full of candy while their awesome teachers safely chauffeured them through town. Appreciation goes out to the participating businesses and departments: the Downieville Volunteer Fire Department, the Mountain Messenger, Downieville Day Spa, Sierra Hardware, Sabrina’s at the Forks, Sierra County Human Services, Downieville Grocery Store, Cold Rush Cafe, Two Rivers, Western Sierra Medical Clinic, Downieville River Inn, Public Works, Sheriff’s Office, Clerk-Recorder’s Office, Sierra County Court Office, Tax Collector’s Office, and Auditor’s Office.
