CRESCENT MILLS — Firefighters from the Mount Hough Ranger District responded to the North Fire on North Valley Road east of Stampfli Road on Tuesday, April 7. The fire was reported around 4:30 PM. Flames burned through grass and oak woodland in the Plumas National Forest.

The fire reached approximately 1.1 acres. Crews achieved full containment, and the blaze reached patrol status by Wednesday night. Firefighters continued work on control lines while partially blocking North Valley Road near the scene.

Responding resources included Indian Valley Fire & Rescue, two Forest Service engines, and the Plumas National Forest Hotshots. “Thanks to all the firefighters who got the fire contained quickly this evening!” officials stated.

The cause of the North Fire was an escaped burn pile. Breezy conditions fueled the fire during the afternoon and evening, according to the U.S. Forest Service. The forest service reminded residents to avoid igniting piles when windy conditions are predicted, keep water on hand, and monitor burning piles closely.
