AUBURN — Anthony Bondarenko, 18, of Roseville, was arrested by Nevada County Sheriff’s Office deputies on March 4. The arrest followed a report from officials at Forest Lake Christian High School in Auburn about alleged threats of violence.

School officials contacted a sheriff’s office school resource officer on the afternoon of March 4. Bondarenko had allegedly expressed interest in carrying out a threat the next day at the school. Classes had ended on the day of the report, but deputies staffed the campus because an evening event was still scheduled.

A school resource officer determined Bondarenko was in Rocklin. With help from the Rocklin Police Department, officers detained him in a movie theater parking lot. Nevada County deputies then arrived to complete the arrest.

Bondarenko faces a charge of criminal threats under California Penal Code section 422(a). The law applies when a person willfully threatens to commit a crime that would result in death or great bodily injury to another person and causes reasonable fear for safety. Bondarenko was booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City.
