Girls Basketball – 3/12
Modoc girls cap strong season with regional run ending against Woodland Christian in Division V.
In an NSCIF Regional Semifinal for Division V last Saturday, 3/7, the Modoc Braves, led by senior Katie Eruiaga's 14 points and sophomore Madelyn Moltzen’s 11 points, were able to beat the Escalon Cougars, 38-27, in what was mainly a hard-fought defensive struggle.
With this victory, the Braves advanced to Division V’s Regional Finals a couple of days ago, on Tuesday, 3/10, against the Woodland Christian Cardinals, a team they lost to during the 2024 finals. Unfortunately for the Braves, who were playing without senior Mackenzie Diven (their second-highest scorer during the season), the Cardinals' defense held Erquiaga and Moltzen to just 11 points, and the Braves were denied a chance to advance to the Statewide Final for Division V. Yes, the Cardinals outscored the Braves, 49-36.
Nonetheless, Modoc’s team finished the season with an overall 24-6 win-loss record, plenty of reason to be very proud of themselves.
Thus, the high school girls' basketball season has now ended for the northeastern California teams we’ve been following. Next week, I’ll begin tracking the high school boys’ baseball season
