ROLLINS LAKE — Sheriff’s Offices and Search and Rescue teams from Nevada, Yuba, and Placer have been searching Rollins Lake since Monday, June 24th for a missing male jet skier. According to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, a male was driving a jet ski with two females on board, and all were thrown from the vehicle on a turn. The two females resurfaced, but the male was not seen again. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office says the riders were not wearing life jackets.

Dive teams were immediately employed by the Nevada and Placer County Sheriff’s Offices, without success. The search resumed on Tuesday, June 25th, with additional support from the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department dive team. PG&E also assisted by providing lidar scanning technology. Support from the air was provided by a California Highway Patrol helicopter crew. Dive teams continued to use sonar and remotely operated robots without contact.

Nevada County Search and Rescue began using its three cadaver dogs on Tuesday, still without success. The search was continued on Wednesday and Thursday, with the most recent update given by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Crews are expected to continue searching on Friday.

Update: The body of the missing man was found and recovered on Thursday. He was located at a depth of 170 feet, and because dive teams could not reach such depth safely, his body was recovered by a symbiotic robot.
