Kevel Gutman, a dedicated community member and world traveler from Downieville, has passed away.

Kevel Jane Kokjer Gutman, was born a proud San Franciscan in 1938 to Nancy Ramsey and Donald Kokjer, and was raised in Mill Valley. After careers in the Bay Area, she and her husband Arnie moved to Downieville, and both became actively involved with their community. Kevel was a docent at the Downieville Museum, served on the Plumas-Sierra County Fair Board, and was active with the Downieville Fire Department Auxiliary. She was also a member of Naomi Parlor No. 36, Native Daughters of the Golden West in Downieville, and was a very proud member of MENSA International.
In retirement, the couple traveled the world with trips to Japan, Russia, and numerous adventures in England and France. Most memorable were their numerous fishing adventures in Alaska. Outfishing all others was a priority in Kevel’s life.
Recently residing in Grass Valley, she was a dedicated volunteer at the Animal Save bookstore.
Kevel was predeceased by her husband Arnie, and is survived by sons Keith, Kirk, Noal, David, and numerous grandchildren.
