LOYALTON – Liberty Utilities’ California residential electricity customers will receive a $71.98 California Climate Credit on their November bills, the California Public Utilities Commission announced October 12.
The credit reaches households served by Liberty in Loyalton, Portola, and parts of the Truckee area. The utility’s service-area list includes Glenshire, Northstar, Hobart Mills, and Stampede.
Liberty will apply the credit automatically. Residential customers receive the same amount regardless of how much electricity they use, and any credit left after covering the bill carries forward to the next month.
Residential customers qualify if they are receiving service when the credit is distributed, according to the commission’s consumer guidance. Customers with rooftop solar qualify, too. In mobile home parks and other arrangements where a landlord receives the utility bill through a master meter, the landlord must pass the credit along to eligible tenants.
November is part of a revised schedule the commission approved in April to put residential credits in months with higher bills. Liberty’s residential credit months this year are April and November. Starting in 2027, the credits are scheduled for October and November.
The credit returns to customers some of the money raised by California’s Cap-and-Invest Program. Under the program, the state limits greenhouse gas emissions and auctions allowances that major emitters use to cover their emissions. The California Air Resources Board runs those auctions.
Customers can look for a line labeled “CA Climate Credit” or “California Climate Credit” on their bill. Billing cycles can shift its appearance to the following month, according to the commission’s consumer guidance. Liberty customers with questions about their credit can call 1-800-782-2506.
