Local Baseball – Final Games

June 5, 2025

The 2025 high school and community college baseball playoffs have all been completed. Here are the results I failed to supply in last week’s edition:

Lassen Grizzlies: On Saturday, 5/24, Susanville’s Grizzlies traveled to Tiger Field in Redding to play the West Valley Eagles of Cottonwood for their section’s title. Since the Eagles had beaten the Grizzlies by scores of 12-2 and 13-1 earlier in the month, the fact that the Eagles outscored the Grizzlies 10-0 in the section’s championship game was not a surprise. Nonetheless, with three wins during the playoffs and an overall 18-12 record, the Grizzlies had good reason to celebrate a successful season.

Loyalton Grizzlies: Also traveling to Redding for a division championship game on Saturday, 5/24, Loyalton’s Grizzlies won their sixth straight game and took the Section 7 title by beating the Hayfork Timberjacks by a 10-3 margin. With three hits, two of them doubles, in four at-bats, senior Gus Petterson scored three runs and batted in four more to lead the team’s offense. Meanwhile, pitchers Cooper Holland (Jr.) and Thor Corcoran (Soph.) gave up only one hit to the Timberjacks and struck out 12 during the game.

Feather River College Golden Eagles: As has become a tradition, the FRC Golden Eagles had a very successful season, amassing 33 wins and 12 losses, putting together a team batting average of .327, winning the Golden Valley Conference (GVC) title, and advancing to the regional community college (3C2A) playoffs for the 25th consecutive season. In addition, Terry Baumgartner was named the GVC Coach of the Year for the 15th time over his 18 years of coaching the team; Anthony Cepeda was named the GVC’s MVP after posting a .349 batting average with 29 RBI, 10 doubles, and 33 walks; and, Dylan Marx (.394 and 34 RBI), Shane Danley (.365 and 46 RBI), Zane Denton (.355 and 34 RBI), Nick Anderson (.327 22 RBI), starting pitcher Tanner Hail (with a 7-3 record and a 3.41 ERA), and closer Will Page-Allen (with 10 saves and a 2.08 ERA) were selected to the All-GVC First Team.
