Roundup of recent results, league standings, and playoff implications for area girls basketball teams.
February 12, 2026
With the regular season ending this week, here are the most recent results and outlooks for the girls' basketball teams in northeastern California:
Bear River Bruins: After tromping the weak Mira Loma Matadors, 61-14, on 2/4, the Bruins were handed a brutal 35-80 loss when they traveled to Colfax last Friday night. Thus, the Bruins remained tied for third place in the Pioneer Valley League (PVL) with the Oakmont Vikings when they faced the Marysville Indians, after the paper’s deadline, on Wednesday, 2/11. If the Bruins win this game and the Vikings lose to Colfax on Wednesday night, the Bruins will gain sole possession of third place in the PVL. Then, tomorrow evening, the team will defend this rank when they host Oakmont in both teams’ final regular-season game.
Chester Volcanoes: On Tuesday of this week, the Volcanoes were at home against the Los Molinos Bulldogs and had no trouble overcoming the visitors, winning the game by a score of 43-20. Tomorrow night, the Volcanoes will take the court, away, against the Redding Christian Lions, hoping to avenge the eight-point defeat they were given by the Lions in late January. Whatever the outcome, the Volcanoes are assured of placing second behind the Lions in their Five Star League.
Colfax Falcons: As expected, the Falcons had no trouble handling the Wheatland Pirates and Bear River Bruins since our report. So, when they took the court last night (after our deadline) in Roseville against the Oakmont Vikings, the Falcons remained unbeaten in PVL games this season. Since the Bruins outscored their final two opponents, the Oakmont Vikings and Marysville Indians, 128-45, earlier this season, it’s easy to predict the team will finish the regular season on a 17-game win streak and the PVL championship.
Herlong Vikings: Last Friday, the very young Vikings gained more court experience while losing, 15-34, to the Princeton Eagles. In their final game of this season, the Vikings will host the Loyalton Grizzlies. Herlong will again gain experience they can use next year. However, the odds of the Vikings taking home a victory are slim to none. As their coach, Lindsey Godman, tells the team, “scores don’t matter as much as being fit and learning how work together as a team.”
Lassen Grizzlies: This past week, the Grizzlies lost to the Anderson Cubs (39-59) and Redding’s University Prep Panthers (49-65). Last night, again after the deadline for this week’s edition, the team went onto their home court against the Yreka Miners, a team that narrowly beat the Grizzlies, 42-37, when they played in Yreka on 1/21. If the Grizzlies avenged this loss at home last night and then close their season tomorrow night by beating Shasta Lake’s Central Valley Falcons, as they easily did on 1/23, the Grizzlies will finish the year with a two-game winstreak.
Loyalton Grizzlies: Since last week’s edition, the Grizzlies extended their winning streak to 13 games. First, they defeated the tough Plumas Charter Warriors, 55-49, last Friday. Then, the Grizzlies easily knocked off the Princeton Eagles, 58-28, on Tuesday of this week. Tomorrow night’s game, the regular season finale for Loyalton, will be against the Herlong Vikings. Having already beaten the Vikings by 31 points back on 1/20, the Grizzlies, already champions in the Pioneer League, will almost certainly be riding a 14-game win streak when they begin postseason competition.
Modoc Braves: Last Saturday, on 2/7, the Braves made the long trip to Weaverville to defend their second-place standing in the Shasta Cascade League against the 5-2 Trinity Wolves. Having beaten the Wolves 57-40 at home on 1/23, the Braves eked out a 53-49 win on the road and clinched second place in the SCL. Tonight, the team will prepare for postseason play with a contest against the Fall River Bulldogs, a team they beat by 7 points in mid-January.
Nevada Union Miners: As expected, the Miners outscored the Roseville Tigers last Thursday evening and their 57-49 victory, combined with the loss the Lincoln Twelve Bridges Raging Rhinos took against the Roseville Tigers, vaulted the Miners into a second-place tie in the Foothill Valley League with the Rhinos. Tonight, the Miners are on the road for their final regular-season game against the Yuba City Honkers, a team they defeated 46-23 at home on 1/21. Since the Rhinos’ last game, also tonight, is against the very weak Del Campo Cougars, the Miners’ game against the Honkers is a must-win if the team is to end the season in second place within the FVL.
Placer Hillmen: With strong victories over the Twelve Bridges Raging Rhinos (64-38) and Yuba City Honkers (64-30) over the past week, the Hillmen now have a three-game lead in the FVL, clinching the conference’s championship. Tonight, the Hillmen will be warming up for postseason play with a game against the River Valley Falcons, a team the Hillmen beat by 40 points on 1/21.
Plumas Charter Warriors: The Warriors put up a good fight when they hosted the hot Loyalton Grizzlies last Friday evening. However, the Warriors lost 49-55, ending a four-game winning streak. Last night, the team had a non-conference match-up with the CORE Butte Lynx. Now second in the Pioneer League, the team will most likely hold this position tomorrow night, when they host the winless Westwood Lumberjacks.
Portola Tigers: After losing on the road to the Biggs Wolverines on 2/6 (34-47), the Tigers hosted the Hamilton Braves on Tuesday of this week. Beaten by the Braves by 17 points on 1/23, the Tigers forced overtime on Tuesday, coming from behind with a strong fourth-quarter effort. Unfortunately, they were outscored by two two-point baskets in OT and lost 46-50.
Quincy Trojans: After the Trojans posted a close, 40-37, victory over the Maxwell Panthers and a 56-21 rout of the Williams Yellowjackets over the past week, the Trojans now occupy third place in the Mid-Valley League, one game behind the second-place Hamilton Braves. If the Trojans can beat the Braves, the regular season will end with both teams at 7-3 in MVL play. Since Hamilton beat Quincy by six points, back on 1/27, the Trojans can break this tie with a seven-point win.
Truckee Wolverines: Having beaten the Sparks Railroaders (44-24) and the Wooster Colts (50-3) easily since our last edition, the Wolverines finished second in Nevada’s 3A North-West League this season. Unfortunately, in their postseason quarterfinal match against the Elko Indians this week, on Monday, 2/9, the Wolverines went down to defeat 23-29.
Westwood Lumberjacks: Home-court advantage did not come close to providing the boost the Lumberjacks needed to secure a victory against the Paradise Adventist Academy Panthers last Tuesday, 2/10. The team lost 9-36. Sadly, the woes of this winless team are unlikely to be erased when the Lumberjacks play their final game of the season against the Plumas Charter Warriors tomorrow night.
