Ed’s family and longtime friends made the trip from as far as Hawaii to meet at the Downieville Grocery benches in his honor. Ed’s wife, Virginie Cayer, summarized Ed’s love for Downieville and his caring and friendly nature. Stories of Ed’s time in Downieville were told by his childhood friend Dale, his son Evan, and several community members.

Ed’s beloved dog Finn also returned for the day to his favorite spot under the grocery store benches, where he could often be found behind Ed’s legs. A wooden plaque reading “Ed Loved Downieville, Downieville Loved Ed” was unveiled on one of those benches, featuring Ed, his son Evan, and Finn. Snacks were provided at Boomtown Lounge after the memorial.
