NEVADA COUNTY — On Monday, Nevada County Transit Services announced a new tap-to-pay system available on all Nevada County Connects buses. The contactless payment system allows riders to tap their Visa or Mastercard, including Apple Pay or Google Pay. The system is already fully operational.
Connect’s tap-to-pay has a separate fee structure from cash fares, with a $2 for 3-hour rate and a $6 daily cap. A weekly cap of $20 and a monthly cap of $70 are also in place. The senior (65+), disabled, and veteran rates are half-priced, with registration available through nevadacountyca.gov/TaptoPay. Transit Services says youth and student discounts will be made available shortly through the same registration system.
Nevada County Connects operates seven routes running throughout western Nevada County. The new tap-to-pay fare system attempts to bridge the gap between the local bus zone (Grass Valley, Nevada City, and the Brunswick Basin) fares and those of regional routes (Auburn, Penn Valley, and North San Juan).
