On Considering Political Candidates

Dear Editor,

This is a reminder to consider political candidates like any other job applicant. Verify their resume: is it accurate or embellished? Is what they say they’ll accomplish within the powers of the position? What is their verified history of accomplishments? Do they work well with others and follow through with tasks? What is their reputation with those they have worked with over time? If they will be on a multi- member board, remember they only have one vote and cannot unilaterally enact expansive promises. What is their motivation for wanting the position? Is it a good fit? Are there any red flags?

Those hiring a job applicant must do their due diligence. The voters of Sierra County must do the same, or they may encounter some surprises.
